Carolyn Godfrey Machen of Gardendale passed away November 29, 2015. She was predeceased by her parents, William E. Godfrey and Lucille Buckelew Godfrey and son John Mark Machen, Jr. Carolyn graduated from Minor High School, Auburn University (BA), and University of Montevallo (MA). Most of her life she was a member of Crumly Chapel United Methodist Church and most recently a member at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist. Carolyn was a teacher at Minor High School her entire teaching career. She is survived by her husband John Mark Machen, Sr., daughters Julie McDaniel (Lee), Tevis Stone (Scott). Grandchildren are Aubree and Addison McDaniel and Belle and Sela Stone. Her brothers are Dr. Gerald E. Godfrey, Sr. (Jacqueline), Dr. Douglas Godfrey (Jeanette) and Roland Godfrey (Janelle). In addition there are numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1st at Bell Forestdale chapel with burial to follow at Crumly Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Mike Pope and Pastor Jake Barrett Pastors of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will be officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday two hours prior to Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at 600 Beacon Pkwy W Birmingham, Alabama or your favorite charity.
