Burial will follow at Union Grove Cemetery (1247 Dogwood Rd, Adamsville, AL 35005). Pastor Jon Wiggins and Jeremy "Worm" Stone will be officiating.
Chris was born on May 6, 1972, in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Minor High School in 1990, where he made several lifelong friends. In fact, everywhere Chris went he made friends. He never met a stranger and was quite comfortable being the center of attention. He made people laugh. He made people feel special. He made people think. His heart knew no bounds. "I've hung out with celebrities, like Vanilla Ice and Kevin Turner, and had dinner with the homeless. We are all the same." He said.
Chris was a brick mason by trade, and an auto mechanic, following in his father's footsteps. He was a hard worker and was proud of his many accomplishments, whether that be showing off homes or venues he helped build or vehicles he loved working on. However, his greatest love, and accomplishments he took the most pride in, would be his children. He proved this time and time again, overcoming difficult circumstances to be a man his children could look up to. He loved being with family and friends, singing karaoke, and sports of all kinds, but was an avid Alabama Football fan (Roll Tide!). "I want everyone to dress like they are going to their favorite football game at my funeral. All college teams." was one of his last requests. He was a proud member of Skyland Baptist Church and passed with comfort and peace, ready to see the face of Jesus. "I'm not tough. I am saved by the grace of God. He gave me peace. I have nothing to fear." He said.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Uptain, Tim Uptain, Stephen Pritchett, Mikie Cain, Greg Stocks, and Ethan Stone. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Skyland Baptist Church Men's Ministry and many dear friends and Facebook fans. "It is a lucky man who hears how much he meant to the world before he leaves it."
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the UAB staff and nurses (MCCU and MICU) who took such good care of Chris in his final days. Most nurses are not angels, but I believe most angels are nurses" he said. Thank you for the generosity you showed, allowing Chris's last wish to come true. "I kissed my wife. I held my baby… I've been fighting so hard to stick around to see him. I told God that was my final wish. He granted it to me. God is so good."
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the GoFundMe account previously set up for a lung transplant ( https://gofund.me/87e267d4 ). Due to the generosity of so many people, any additional donations to this account will go directly into savings for Chris's two sons, Kolby and Coy. Please also consider donating to the Skyland Baptist Church Vision Fund (3320 Skyland Blvd E, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405), the Brooklyn Church Van Fund (2176 County Rd 1693, Holly Pond, AL 35083), or the charity of your choice.
