Obituary

On February 8, 2020, Daniel "Dan" Maurice Rowell died in his home in Hiawassee, Georgia, at the age of 66.  After first greeting Jesus, his parents, and older brother, Dan most certainly exchanged a hearty "Roll Tide" with Paul Bear Bryant. Dan was born on July 16, 1953 in Birmingham, Alabama, to Andy Hunter Rowell, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Nabers. Dan graduated from Ensley High School where he was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams.  Dan attended Jefferson State Junior College on a baseball scholarship. As an adult, Dan worked for Birmingham-Southern Railroad and Ace Hardware in Blairsville, Georgia, before retiring from Superior Paint Store in Hiawassee, Georgia. Where and when a man was born and died and the work titles he carried tell little about the heart and soul of a man.  Dan is no exception.  To have known Dan is to know about his love of Alabama football (Roll Tide!) and Yankees baseball.  It is to know about the joy he received from listening to a really great Allman Brothers or Grateful Dead album and sharing that love of music with his nephew and best friend, Andy.  And it is to know that he was always willing to help someone in need. Dan is preceded in death by his parents Andy Hunter Rowell, Sr. and Dorothy Louise Nabers, and brother Dr. Andy Hunter Rowell, Jr.  Dan is survived by his brother James E. "Butch" Rowell (Jackie), sister-n-law, Marilyn Rowell, nephews Andy H. Rowell, III and Dr. Clay Rowell (Lisa),nieces Beth Chandler (Jeff) and Jill Mooney, and a number of great nephews and nieces, aunts, cousins, and friends. A graveside service is scheduled for February 14 at 1pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.  Pastor Steve Potts will officiate the ceremony.  Dan requested that all who attend come dressed in their favorite University of Alabama gear.  Yes.  Auburn fans will be welcomed at the service.  After all, Jesus loves everyone so we should, too.
