DIXIE VIRGINIA ROWLAND GALLOWAY age 96 passed away February 6, 2021 in Birmingham, Alabama.  She was the youngest child of Samuel T. and Ida W. Rowland being born July 24, 1924 in Winston County, Alabama.  She is a 1942 graduate of Winston County High School.  She was married on April , 1946 to Charles E. Galloway, Jr. and they were married just short of 70 years when he passed away on April 1, 2016.

Grandmama Dixie as she was referred to by her grandchildren always enjoyed sewing, cooking and being with her family.  She worked as a bookkeeper for many years and was employed by Standard Oil, Birmingham Frozen Foods, Binzel products and retired from Service Chemical Industries.

She was a longtime member of Forestdale Baptist Church.

She is predeceased by her Husband, Charles E. Galloway, Jr., her parents Samuel T. and Ida Rowland, her seven siblings, Irene Rowland, Milton Rowland (Tillie), Elsie Mae "Tot" Ward (John), Wiley Rowland (Marcel), Agnes Simpson, Samuel T. Rowland, Jr., Faye Barbour, and her dear friend and Sister in Law, Mollie Warren.

She is Survived by her Son, Charles Michael Galloway and wife Debbi, her grandson Patrick Michael Galloway, granddaughter Lauren Galloway Quick and son-in-law Justin Quick, great grandson Cooper Blane Quick and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, February 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Birmingham, Al  35211.  Dr. Hugh Richardson , Officiating.

Special thanks to the special caregivers from Visiting Angels that cared for her over the last several years, Tasha, Mareeka, Terri, Monica, Tiffany and Dawn and to Princeton Palliative Care Unit, Amedysis Hospice and Southern Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the University of Alabama Birmingham Callahan Eye Foundation.
