Obituary

Dorothy Jo Hodges, 81, of Birmingham, Alabama, transitioned to heaven on April 11, 2026. She was born on December 24, 1944 to Josie Mae and Henry Morrison. She worked for many years at Sears at the Galleria in Birmingham, Alabama before retiring in 2013. While a native of Birmingham, she lived in Texas and Florida for several years before returning to her home state in 1996. She loved working in her yard and loved many wonderful dogs over the years. Dorothy attended Church H2O in Forestdale. She was also considered the sweet grandmother on her street in the neighborhood by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonya Colburn, her grandsons, Garrett Wootan and Michael Ross and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Meldon Hodges, mother, Josie Mae Morrison, father, Henry Morrison, brother Jimmy Morrison and sisters, Martha Lewis and Peggy Falkner. She was the youngest of four siblings.

Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness, her sense of humor and fun nature, her laughter, her love of people, her love of her dogs - but most importantly her love of Jesus – her Lord and Savior.

A funeral service will be held at Bell Funeral Home, 2077 Pratt Highway, Birmingham, Alabama on Thursday, April 23 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with the service at 11:00 am officiated by Pastor Mike Cox of H2O Church. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

She will be missed until we are united with her again. Well done Dorothy, good and faithful servant. Absent from the body, present with the Lord, and forever in our hearts.
