Rainey, George Milton, Jr. of Birmingham passed away Monday, September 1, 2014. He was a member of Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church and the Chapel Sunday School Class.
He retired from US Steel with thirty-eight years of service as an engineer in the M&E Department.
He was president of Harmonicas of Alabama for many years and was known for his love of the harmonica and his beautiful singing voice. He was an active member of many senior citizen dances in the area, especially Brooklane Community Center in Hueytown. He loved music, camping, travel and making friends along the way.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Emogene Morgan Rainey; sons George Robert "Bob" Rainey (Celia), Howard Rainey (Jannette) and Brian Rainey (Betty Durbin), grandchildren Kevin, Jeff, Matthew, Miranda, Christopher and Austin. Also surviving are sisters Flora Tyree, Clara Champion and Carolyn Houts. He was preceded in death by grandson Jesse Rainey as well as sisters Frances Powers, Dot Harding, Betty McKay, Tommie Neumann and his brothers Charles Rainey and Johnny Rainey.
Visitation will be on Thursday September 4th from 11a.m. till 1p.m., with service following at Bell Forestdale Chapel at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Daven Watkins will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, P.O. Box 755 Fultondale, AL 35068. The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice, especially Lauren and Julie for their excellent, compassionate support of our family.
