Lois V. Godfrey, age 92, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Mississippi, she had spent the last 50 years in Birmingham. She was preceded in death by her parents Eunice & Pope, her husband of 38+ years Maurice, sister Edith (JB), brothers-in-law R. Donald (Alice), G. Luther Jr. (Marjorie) and sisters-in-law Irmi, Mildred (Clay), nieces Linda, Elaine (Jerry) and great niece Kelly.
She is survived by her loving children, Deborah (Ralph) and Richard, her brother Wayne, nieces and nephews: Carol, Robert, Louis (Dean), George L. III (Kathy), Tevis (Ray), Rita, along with great nieces and nephews Tonya (Scott), Greg (Debbie), Richard (Sandra), Rodney, Anna (Daniel), Angie (Whitt) and many more relatives. Friends and caretakers Neda Cowan and Vicki Pritchett are especially appreciated.
Throughout her working life in Birmingham, Lois was both a caretaker for her mother and worked in the automotive industry from 1977 to 2006. Upon retirement, she enjoyed working in her yard and she enjoyed doing everything she could to help make the lives of the people around her just a little bit better.
Visitation will be on Sunday, July 11 th at Bell Forestdale Chapel from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Monday, July 12 th at 1:00 p.m. at Bell Forestdale Chapel with burial to follow at Crumly Chapel Cemetery. She will lie in state in the Chapel from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday.
