Obituary

Nellie (Nell) Pearl Mayfield Gilbert Romine, 84, of Adamsville, Alabama, passed away on July 14, 2016, at her home in Adamsville.

Nell was born in Blount Springs, Alabama to William H. Mayfield and Martha L. Burns Mayfield on November 9, 1931. She graduated from Hanceville High School, Hanceville, Alabama, in the class of 1951. She married Louis Edward Gilbert on March 26, 1953 in Lee County, Mississippi. Louis passed away on June 4, 1984. Nell married George Edward Romine on November 7, 2002. She was a beautician and worked many years in her home based business. She ran for and was elected to the Adamsville City Council in 1988, serving four years. In addition to regular council duties she served on four committees. She has been a member of the Westwood Baptist Church since 1964. She was active in her church for many years and served on the decorating committee and was a member of the Singing Saints Choir. She also served on the Sulphur Springs Cemetery perpetual maintenance committee for several years.

Nell enjoyed vacation trips to Florida with family and friends. She also enjoyed many bus trips across the U. S. and Canada often convincing her sisters to join her. She loved much and laughed a lot and often had an amusing story to tell.

Nell is preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha Mayfield, her husbands, Louis E. Gilbert and George E. Romine, her brother Clayton, her sisters, Gracie D. Sitton and Thelma E. Woodard.

Nell is survived by her sister Mabra M. Hulsey, her stepson Gary Romine, eight nieces, and two nephews as well as a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Westwood Baptist Church, on July 16, 2016, at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will be at the church at 11:00 AM, preceding the funeral service. Interment will be at the Sulphur Springs Cemetery, Blount County, Alabama, following the funeral service. Funeral services are provided by the Bell Funeral Home, Forestdale, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be Ernest A. Frankl, III, Wyatt H. Swanner, Bill Robinson, Jeffery D. Sitton, James O. Sitton and Randy Moore.

Memorials may be given to the Westwood Baptist Church or the Sulphur Springs Cemetery perpetual maintenance fund, 1073 Double Pond Trail, Hayden, Al. 35079. In addition to her friends and neighbors, the family of Nell Gilbert Romine wishes to thank the members of the Westwood Baptist Church who visited Nell, brought food or sent an encouraging card. The family also wishes to thank her caregivers, Sandra Luke and Melissa Warhurst.
