Obituary

Pete Wesley Meadows, Sr. (born Mar. 2, 1932) passed away peacefully on Aug. 11, 2017. He was 85. Mr. Meadows was a one-year resident of the Tut Fann VA Home in Huntsville . Pete grew up in Brookside, AL where he lived most of his life at 124 Pastor Street. He was the beloved son of Benjamin Lewis Meadows and Mary Ann Kostelnik Meadows. Pete was a 1950 graduate of Minor High School, where he excelled in varsity baseball and the Glee Club. He proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed in Alaska with the 4 th Comm Construction Squadron (AMC) during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and earned the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was employed for several years with Southern Railroad, TCI and Sloss Industries until he retired in 1989. Pete was a lifelong prominent member of the Brookside, AL community where he was a member of the local VFW. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and Alabama college football. He supported Boy Scout Troop 206 and was active with Brookside Park where he coached Dixie Youth Little League and women's softball for many years. Pete was a gifted storyteller who loved his family, especially his grandchildren and the type of person who never met a stranger. Pete is survived by a brother, Benjamin Meadows (Laverne); former wife Jane Jarvis Meadows; four children, daughter Mitsy Fittipaldi (Joseph), son Pete Meadows, Jr. (Teresa Sheelor), daughter Cynthia Johnston (David), and son Ralph Meadows (Tonja Graham); six grandchildren Thomas Matthew Marsh, Caitlin Johnston, Elizabeth Johnston, Victoria Johnston, Blaine Meadows, and Brooke Meadows; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Marsh and McKenzie Meadows; countless yard kids and his dog Tank. He was predeceased by brothers William Meadows and Jack Meadows. Visitation is planned for Sunday, Aug. 13, 2017, 6-8 pm at Bell Funeral Home, 2077 Pratt Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35214. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, at Bell Funeral Home after which he will be laid to rest at Brookside Catholic Cemetery .  Donations may be made to The St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
