Rachel E. Austin went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 13, 2014. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Ollie E. Austin; Father, William C. Long; and her Mother, Dicie E. (Wadsworth) Long; Sister, Edna (Long) Sides; Brothers, Earl A. Long (Iris) and W. Ralph Long (Nell). Rachel began a successful career at Jefferson County Health Department in Birmingham where she retired after 35 years of service to care for her ailing husband. She then went on to care for patients in the hospital and homes independently. She belonged as an active member of The Eastern Star and The Autumn Club. She was an active member of Graysville Baptist Church for over 50 years. She kept watch over her nieces and nephews and their children that followed. She had a great love for her family and was active in her community. She is survived by Nephews, Jerry E. Long (Patsy), Richard Sides (Delora); Nieces, Joan Sides Jordan (Kenneth-deceased), Judy Long and Yvonne Long Yarbrough (Raymond); Stepdaughter, Rebecca Austin Mcginty. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 17th at Bell Forestdale Chapel. Private Family Graveside Service will follow. Bro. Tommy Morrison will be officiating.
