Robert Donald "Don" Jones, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 30, 2020. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather that will be missed dearly by his entire family. He retired from the Jefferson County Department of Health as Chief of Building Maintenance in 1992. He was a member of Forestdale Baptist Church for 62 years where he served many years as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and devoted Church leader as well as going on several Mission Trips. He was also a member of the choir and JOY Singers in his time there. To many, he was fondly known as "The Candy Man" as he always had a bag full of candy for the kids to get a piece after church on Sunday Night. He enjoyed making gifts from wood to give to family and friends.He was a current member at Sandusky First Baptist Church.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, George Rufus "Bud" and Maude Echols Jones, brothers John, Kenneth, Willis, Theran (PeeWee), and sisters Mary Herrington, Crecy Woodward, Eunice Sanford, and Eolin Snyder.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Doris Jones; sons Ron (Debbie) Jones and Bobby (Jan) Jones; grandchildren Jaime (Tim) Clark, Andi (Joey) Gholson, Tyler (Julie) Jones, Bailey (Heath) Washington, and Jennifer Jones (Taylor Harper); great grandchildren Micah, Payton, Alston, Ethan, Sam, Chase, Rylee, Adalyn, Delilah, Grant, and step great grandchildren Isaac and Harper; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 4 th , at Bell Forestdale Chapel with burial to follow at Bivens Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Buddy Majors officiating. Visitation will be from 1pm until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandusky First Baptist Church 1125 Haven Drive, Birmingham, AL, 35214.
We will follow the CDC's COVID-19 Guidelines. Bell Funeral Home Forestdale directing.
