Waymon Franklin Martin, born March 4, 1929. At age 87 Frank passed away March 20, 2016. He is remembered as a great father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. He was a graduate of Marion County High School 1947, he served his country in Korea as sergeant in the army during the 1950s. Upon his return he took advantage of the GI bill and attended Birmingham Southern College for his degree. He worked as a disc jockey for WYDE and other radio stations during and after college and ran theaters in the area. With degree in hand he helped start Birmingham City Schools Television facility and became director. At retirement he worked with Meals-on-Wheels and delivered to shut-ins for over ten years. As an avid general class amateur radio operator he spoke to other "HAMS" around the world. His last years were spent at the Tut Fann Veterans Retirement Home in Huntsville where he made several friends who had also served. His is missed by his daughter, Melissa "Twinkle" and Tom Holland, son, Ben and Thyra Martin; grandchildren Frank Martin and Marie, Susan Andress and Ron, James Holland and Martin Holland and great grandson, Oliver Andress, several nieces, nephews and many many friends. Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 24th at Bell Forestdale Chapel with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday one hour prior to service.
