About Us

In the early 1900's, a furniture store/coffin building shop was among just a few businesses in the small town called Blossburg, (now known as Graysville) in west Jefferson county. The building, which is still standing today, was located on what is now known as Cherry Avenue. Owned and operated by William Jasper and Maude Bell, it was one of a few places where a family could purchase a casket for their deceased loved one. With urbanization and industrialization on the rise, funeral organizations begin to become the way for caring for the deceased. With this in mind, Mr. Bell decided to further his education and begin his career in funeral service. Through his work in a correspondence course, Mr. Bell obtained his "Undertaking" license and begin the century long heritage that is now known as Bell Funeral Home.

In 1937, a new location was purchased and a more up to date facility was built in the Crumly Chapel community. For several years Mr. and Mrs. Bell's son Therron Bell worked for his parents at this location. After William Jasper and Maude Bell's death, Therron and Margaret Bell soon became well known names in the funeral industry. In 1970, Therron and Margaret were ready for another update; the old building was torn down to make way for the new construction with lobbies, offices, a chapel, parlors, and more up to date preparation facilities. Soon, the current building was opened for business.

Therron Bell passed away in 1972, leaving the business in the very capable hands of his wife Margaret. Mrs. Bell was quick to make history, becoming the first female member of the Alabama Funeral Directors Association, an organization that still today thrives for the well being of all its members and the communities they serve.

Mrs. Bell has since passed away, but rest assured, after 100 years of dedicated and caring service, Bell Funeral Home still stands ready to help your family with the loss of your loved ones.
